Best Laid Plans

You know when you make plans and through no fault of your own everything just goes wrong? That’s what’s happening to us this week. We were supposed to leave on Monday, but had some car trouble. Now, we’re just waiting to hear if our car is fixed. We are trying our best to keep good attitudes, but I’m not looking forward to seeing 6-8 inches of snow instead of 70 degree weather.

We’ve both gotten worked up a few times, but soon realize there’s no use. It’s out of our hands. So, I’m going to list off some things that I’m grateful for instead of complaining.

I’m happy I even have the chance to go on a vacation at all.
I’m happy I got to spend the past 2 days with my favorite person on the earth even though it’s not at the beach.
I’m happy that I got to wear a shirt my sister gave me the other day (a late Christmas present) before we leave.
I’m happy we got to spend a fun day that included shopping at Crate & Barrel.
I’m happy Bob just got a call from the mechanic to say our car is fixed.
I’m happy that I’m alive and living in the land of the free and home of the brave.

I’ve got a good life.

Michael Kors Interview

I just got the new InStyle magazine in the mail yesterday and while looking through it I noticed a feature on Michael Kors. I decided a long time ago that if and when I ever have the money to exclusively wear designer clothes, his store would be the first place I go. I envision sort of an Audrey Hepburn/Givenchy thing. 🙂 So naturally, I read the article. In it I found some really great advice. The interviewer and Mr. Kors are talking about how it’s a tricky thing for a woman to dress chic (to impress friends), but how that’s not always when men find sexy. So they ask him to do to both. Here’s his reply:

…chic isn’t really about buying the right pieces but about creating the fantasy of looking like you didn’t need any help. And also that you did it in 10 minutes! You should look natural, so no one is quite sure how you did it.

The next question was, “What’s the trick to that?”

Put it together perfectly but then make sure one things is off. It’s the yin and yang of fashion. If you love something that’s real frilly, wear it with something masculine. If the suit is mannish, dress it up with something sensual.

Aren’t you just so intrigued by his answer? I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet for me, but I’m going to be working on this. Don’t you wonder how some people do it and they look like everything they’re wearing is something they just threw on? I think figuring this out may be my next wardrobe goal.

Not My Best

Today’s not my best. Despite the fact that I just got some powder (which I don’t normally wear {I’m super excited to see if it polishes off my look!}) and I forced my sister to pluck my eyebrows (her’s are perfect. I’m thinking about forcing her to do a tutorial for you guys!). I’ve got a few things going wrong and since we’re BFF’s, I thought you needed to see the results.

I’m absolutely freezing here. Two days ago Bob looked at the thermostat and then looked at me and exclaimed, “75!?!?!” Yeah. I turned it up to 75 because I was freakin’ freezing in my own house and I wanted to be warm. He then told me I needed to just wear more clothes. The result? Sweatshirts and Uggs.
Morning Face. Remember when I first told you about my morning face? Well, I made him swear that he’d tell me if I didn’t look good. And today while taking my pictures he said, “Um, your face doesn’t look that great.” Thanks Honey. I knew I could count on you.
My hair is a mess. I think it may look cool in real life, but it’s not translating in the pictures.
I’m working at Starbucks and anything I bring in here is going to smell like Starbucks when I leave, so I didn’t want to wear anything new, although I do have something new to show you guys. It’ll have to wait until I’m in a better smelling environment.

So pardon me if I don’t really want to show you my face today. OK, you can see it a little.
