One Jacket Five Ways

03.29.2011 by Linda Lotich //

The following is written by Tanvi. She’s an amazing girl I met at the Texas Style Council Conference a few weeks ago and she’s been on my mind ever since. She’s from India and is super smart, beautiful, and well cultured. A killer combination. So go visit her and say hello!

Most of us fall in to the rut of wearing our clothes the same way, each time. Anyone who has a limited options in the wardrobe and is also on a budget would know what a brim situation it is to be in. The best way I have found to add variations to my outfits is via cardigans and light jackets. And Spring is the best time to try that!

Adding a Jacket could help you:

  • Add color to your outfit
  • Color block your outfit
  • Get more use out of other pieces in your wardrobe
  • Make it a little formal or casual as needed

1. Wearing the Jacket with a Jump Suit

Besides wearing the jumpsuit on its own the other way to wear it would be with a Jacket (or scarf, accessories, etc. but let’s leave that for another post!).

2. Wearing the Jacket with Sweat Pants

Most people would not be seen dead with sweat pants in public but if worn correctly and with right layers they can be the most comfortable piece of clothing. Again, I paired them with a jacket to give it a more smart casual look.

3. Wearing the Jacket with a Dress

This dress on its own is quite overwhelming and only appropriate for an evening out however adding a contrasting Jacket made is absolutely wearable for an Afternoon Lunch.

4. Wearing the Jacket with a Skirt

This is like putting to versatile pieces of clothing together. A longer jacket you cover up the skirt, which we do not want hence this one is perfect to play up the drama of the skirt.

5. Wearing the Jacket with Jodhpur Pants

Contrary to what I did with the dress, I wanted to make this outfit wearable for an evening out. A top or a blouse was just not working out the way the Jacket did. Hence, win-win.

I hope I was able to show you few interesting ways to wear a Jacket for different occasions. I would like to Thank Linda for having me over at Rose a la mode. I really enjoyed doing this.

Shorts For Summer

03.08.2011 by Linda Lotich //

A while ago I was looking at The Sartorialist getting my daily fix and he had this photo of Garance Dore up:

Garance Dore Shorts

The caption read: Garance just shops in my closet (and by “in my closet” I mean the green shorts, not the heels!)

Then I saw this (which could be a skirt, but could also be shorts):

The Sartorialist

I totally fell in love with these shorts, but knew that Bob wouldn’t let me wear his shorts and he didn’t have any shorts that I’d really want to borrow anyway, so I kind of put it in the back of my mind…until, I saw these:

Gap Shorts

Aren’t they so cute! They have them in several colors and I’m for sure getting at least one pair (maybe the light pink color!). What I like about them is they’re not super short, but they’re not super long either. I really don’t love wearing shorts, but I’m liking these. They could be worn with either heels or flats with a variety of tops! I’d wear them with a silk or chambray shirt, some comfortable wedges and some chunky jewlery.

OK you guys, a couple weeks ago I told you my favorite drink is a honey latte. I then got requests for how to make them and I never told you! My friend Gertrude (who introduced me to them) put the directions up, so I’m gonna basically copy and paste and add a few little tricks.

What’s great about Honey Lattes is that they’re not bad for you! I use organic milk, organic espresso and local honey, so it’s not bad at all! I make my own, bought this beauty a couple years ago and it was the best $40 I ever spent!

Here we go:

Just use honey instead of flavoring w/ a syrup! Depending on your taste, add about a tablespoon or two of honey.

It’s best to mix the honey up in the hot espresso before you add the milk (for iced ones) otherwise it doesn’t mix well & you drink chunks of honey (not that that is necessarily a bad thing). It’s also DELISH if you add a splash of cinnamon to your honey before putting in the espresso – changes it up a bit.

For a HOT Honey Latte put honey in w/ the milk before you steam it – honey infused steamy goodness!!!

If you go to Starbucks, ask for 4 honey packs with a Grande. I think that’s about right.

And enjoy! Have you ever tried these before? They’re pretty stinkin’ good!
