Guest Post from Karah!

12.21.2012 by Linda Lotich //

As you’ll read below, Karah and I met under some funny circumstances and she is so warm and loving and instantly makes you feel like you’ve known her all your life. She’s got her own blog and you truly should go check it out and show her some love.

Hello fellow rosealamode readers!! I feel so incredibly privileged to do a guest post on Linda’s blog today. I have been following her blog for about 1.5 years now. She was one of the first style blogs I started following. Now, the list is endless!! And she encouraged me to start my own personal style blog about 3 months ago. Come take a look Uniquely Karah.  But I do want to share with you the quick story of how Linda and I met. It is kinda funny:)
okay, so like I said I had been following her for while and I knew she lived in the same city as me, but that can always be so broad, I mean St. Louis, kind of a big city:) Some of my favorite posts were her Thursday latelies. It was fun to hear the voice that went along with the pretty face 🙂 (BTW Linda, whatever happened to those Thursday latelies) Anyway, so one day I was walking into Target (my second home) and I saw LINDA in the return line at Target. My first thought was, “WHAT, Linda lives near me and goes to the same Target as I do”  I was in complete shock, then was a little embarrassed because, I was in sweats that day and I didn’t want her to see me dressed like that. I mean, I RARELY leave the house in sweats, but it had been a hard “mommy” day and sweats were the only thing that made me feel better. Anyway, back to the story…So I’m not sure why I was embarrassed, I mean, it wasn’t like she knew who I was. She didn’t know that I had been reading her blog. Okay, so I didn’t go up to her in Target. Wish I would have, but didn’t. But the minute I got home, I cowardly emailed her to introduce myself and told her that I spotted her at my local Target. Through several emails, we discovered that we lived only about 1 mile from each other. We were practically neighbors!! I couldn’t believe it. I mean, one of my FAVORITE style bloggers lived down the street. UNBELIEVABLE:) Okay, so we set up a coffee date at local Starbucks and I was SOOO nervous. It took me forever to pick out a really cute outfit, because of course I had to look my best:) well, long story short (yeah right) we had some coffee and had so much fun meeting each other. We have since met several times for coffee, a shopping trip and I have even been to her cute little house:) She is such an amazing person, and it has been so fun knowing the REAL Linda, not just the blogging Linda.
Thank you Linda, for letting me guest post on your blog, and for helping & encouraging me to blog. You are the best:)

The Six Item Theory

02.29.2012 by Linda Lotich //

Happy Leap Day! To celebrate, I’ve got another special treat for you today! Kelsey is here! She is soooooo sweet and has quite a unique style. Pop on over to her site and see her cute little preggo self!

Hello! This is Kelsey from Snappy Casual and Words of Williams. I’ve been reading Rose a la Mode for longer than a year and was lucky enough to meet Linda (and Bob!) in person last March. She is such a sweetie!

Today I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

I have a theory. I call it the six-item theory. Basically, I think my best outfits are the ones that have six items.

I do believe that fashion is an art form and not a scientific formula, so I’m not saying that great outfits can’t have three items. Or four or five or eight.

But whenever I’m in a little funk, I force myself to wear six things. And it usually works!

Here’s what I’m talking about (click to view outfit details):

What do you think? Do you prefer simple outfits or more elaborate ones?

Guest Post From B!

02.28.2012 by Linda Lotich //

Yippee! We’ve got a guest post from B! She’s amazing! Just check her out!
hey everyone, i’m b!
i’m a stay-at-home momma of two and wife of a soldier, but i try not to leave the house in sweats (unless i’m headed to the gym) and i only wear camo if it’s from j.crew. wink!
i blog about my family and life and fashion-y stuff over at the daily be.

*

women get a bad rap for “letting themselves go” after kids enter the picture. especially stay-at-home moms. just saying SAHM conjures up images of faded juicy suits, saggy-bottomed sweats, disheveled hair and baggy t-shirts. i know linda & bob don’t have babies of their own yet, but working from home like they do can also make it challenging to get dressed every day.

a lot of people try to justify public pajama-wearing by saying they just want to be comfortable, but i would argue that you can get dressed in “real” clothes every day without sacrificing comfort. here’s an example…
this thin, sweater-like top is as comfortable and easy as any sweatshirt in my closet. the black pants have lots of stretch and are basically glorified leggings, but a zipper + pockets = pants! the boots i’m wearing are flat, warm and super-comfortable, but still cute and somewhat stylish. adding a couple of accessories (the scarf & ring) made this seem even more polished, but i might as well have been wearing pi’s!
for any of you mommas (or non-mommas) out there who dress more for comfort than cuteness, find yourself some flat boots (check target), invest in some stretchy black pants, and throw on a slouchy top. you’ll trick everyone into thinking you put forth some effort but still feel as comfy and cozy as you would wearing your old stand-by sweats!
sweater: forever21
pants: gap
scarf: gift
boots: olukai, active endeavors
ring: gift

i hope this simple outfit inspires you to make some cute and comfy combos of your own!
